Eric McCormack - Fantastick!
Casting has been announced for Reprise Theatre Company’s production of the The Fantasticks, which will play the Freud Playhouse May 5-17. Leading the cast will be Eric McCormack from “Will & Grace” as El Gallo. No stranger to musical theater, McCormack made his Broadway debut in 2001 in the revival of The Music Man. Joining him is High School Musical’s Lucas Grabeel as the young lover Matt, and Tony nominee Harry Groener as Bellomy, Luisa’s father. The cast will also include Alison Woods as Luisa, Barry Dennen, Hap Lawrence, Kim Mikesell and Eileen T’Kaye. Jason Alexander will direct, with musical direction by Darryl Archibald, and choreography by Lee Martino.
The Fantasticks is based on Edmond Rostand’s Les Romanesques, an allegorical tale that concerns two fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love, because they know that children always do what their parents forbid. With book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks features song favorites such as “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” Schmidt and Jones later went on to write 110 In The Shade and I Do, I Do.
The Fantasticks replaces the previously announced production of Chess.
