90th Birthday Bash for Betty Garrett

Betty Garrett

Betty Garrett is turning 90 and Theatre West is throwing her a 90th birthday bash! You’re invited to join the fun at the Music Box Theatre in Hollywood on May 31. During the evening Theatre West will present a variety show to include performances by Beau Bridges, Gogi Grant, Carole Cook, David Engel, The Phantom’s Leading Ladies, and Betty herself, tap-dancing at 90. Tickets and complete event details are available by calling 323-851-7977 or online at http://www.theatrewest.org/betty90.html.

Betty was part of the Golden Era of MGM Musicals, appearing in On the Town, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Neptune’s Daughter and Words and Music, as well as My Sister Eileen at Columbia. She won a Donaldson award (the forerunner of the Tony) for Call Me Mister. Betty also received Career and Life Achievement Awards from Cine Con, The Professional Dancers Society, the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, and the Ovation Awards. Last year Betty received the Kenny Award for her work raising money for AIDS services through S.T.A.G.E., which she co-chaired for twenty years.

In 2003 she was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Congratulations to a great lady of the musical theatre world, and a real sweeheart too, on her 90th birthday!
