GMCLA Announces It Gets Better National Tour
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and the It Gets Better Project have announced a partnership in collaboration with Speak Theater Arts to develop an original national touring show called It Gets Better which will launch in the fall. Liesel Reinhart will direct. The new show, which already has confirmed engagements in Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Washington, will blend music, theater, and multimedia into a production that promotes hope and an anti-bullying dialogue. The touring production also features a weeklong series of community programs, including extensive high school outreach and performance work with a local community choir. Interested communities may inquire at info@dlartists.com for information about being a part of the tour.
The inspiration for It Gets Better began in October 2010 with GMCLA’s video submission of a performance of the song True Colors to the then month-old It Gets Better Project. The incredible response to the video, which to date has received more than 650,000 hits, prompted Chorus leadership to reach out to the It Gets Better Project team about more opportunities for collaboration.
Proceeds from the performances benefit the It Gets Better Project and GMCLA’s Alive Music Project, an in-school outreach program in the Greater Los Angeles area whose mission is to open hearts, change minds and end bullying through the universal language of music.
