From our blogger community: Music festivals are a great way to experience music, discover new bands, and hang out with friends. Every year, music festivals grow bigger and the acts get better, encouraging more people to see what all the fuss is about. If you’ve never been to a music festival and have been itching to bust out your beloved hippie wear, Click Here to check out these eight best music festivals in America.

In this autobiographical one-man musical comedy, Donna/Madonna, writer/performer John Paul Karliak wants so badly to be the perfect son for his adoptive mother, a doting Catholic housewife from Scranton. But realizing he will never be the ideal local boy, he seeks answers from a very different source: his fashion-writing, married-to-a-British-pop-star birth mother. Donna/Madonna is a tale of motherly love and finding acceptance, told through stories, songs and characters like Darth Vader, Carol Channing and John Paul's unforgettable mothers. Hilarious and poignant, this cross-country journey from Scranton to Los Angeles shows that sometimes you have to meet a "Material Girl" to truly appreciate "America's Sweetheart." Performances are 8pm July 24-25 at the Lyric Theatre in Los Angeles and August 6 & 13 at the Chance Theatre in Anaheim. Donna/Madonna is directed by Tiger Reel and Matthew Craig. www.donnamadonnashow.com

The Road Theatre Company presents its third annual Summer Playwrights Festival, 24 Plays in 8 Days, August 5 - 12 featuring performances by Mo Gaffney, Ann Cusack, Zachary Quinto, Kathy Baker, Perry King and more. Tickets are a suggested donation of $15. One popular feature of the festival last summer was the live music that was featured during each reading reception in the gallery space. This year’s festival will feature the bands and musicians Bianca Giselle, Stage 11, Engine of Survival, End of Ever, Louahn Lowe, Reconciler and Irish band sensation Whiskey Sunday. The Festival will take place at the historic Lankershim Arts Center, 5108 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, 91602. www.roadtheatre.org
