Spring Awakening with Audience ONSTAGE
La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts has announced its cast for Spring Awakening, book & lyrics by Steven Sater, music by Duncan Sheik, based on the play by Frank Wedekind, with musical direction by John Glaudini, choreography by Dana Solimando and directed by Brian Kite. Spring Awakening will preview on Thursday, March 21, (with a press opening on Friday, March 22) and runs through Saturday, March 30 live “ONSTAGE” at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada. Get up close & personal with the new ONSTAGE series at La Mirada Theatre. A new, intimate theatre experience has been created by placing 199 audience seats on the actual stage of the theater which will be filled with an incredible award-winning musical AND the audience. This is the premiere production of this extraordinary new series which allows you to be as close as you can to the performance!

The cast features Nick Adorno as Hanschen, Jennifer Foster as Anna, Coby Getzug as Moritz, Christopher Higgins as Ernst, Micaela Martinez as Wendla, Austin MacPhee as Melchior, Alex Mendoza as Georg, Bruce Merkle as Otto, Alyssa Simmons as Ilse, Cailan Rose as Thea, Salisha Thomas as Martha, Linda Kerns as Adult Female and Michael Rothhaar as Adult Male. Tickets can be purchased at www.lamiradatheatre.com or by calling the box office at (562) 944-9801 or (714) 994-6310. The Old Globe Postpones The Honeymooners
The Old Globe has announced that its upcoming production of the The Honeymooners has been postponed due to a conflict with artist schedules. The world premiere musical by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss (book), Stephen Weiner (music) and Peter Mills (lyrics) was originally set to run at the Globe from Sept. 8 – Oct. 27, 2013 under the direction of Jerry Mitchell. “We are disappointed that we will not produce The Honeymooners this season, but we hope that San Diego audiences will be able to enjoy this delightful musical in the future,” said artistic director Barry Edelstein. He continued: “We are hard at work seeking an exciting replacement for the show that we will announce shortly with the rest of our wonderful 2013-14 season.”

Spring 2013 Musical Theater Class with Georgia Stitt
Georgia Stitt will be teaching her last private 6-week musical theater class for awhile so if you’ve been meaning to get to class, do it now. She and her family are planning a move back to New York this summer. To register: send an email directly to georgiastitt@mac.com.

Choose a music theater or pop song from any genre and either shape it into a useful audition selection or discover why it's problematic. Topics include audition cuts, choosing material, personalizing songs, connecting, letting the music work for you, knowing your type, and making strong choices. Identify the structure of your song and use it to strengthen your storytelling. By looking at phrase length, rhyme, contrast, musical gesture, and surprise, you can uncover clues from the composer that can fuel your acting choices. Each singer/actor will work for 20 minutes each week.

Get Your Game On in 2013: Master Classes with Ryan Scott Oliver and Georgia Stitt

Happy New Year everyone! 2013 is off to a good start and Los Angeles artists will have two opportunities to give their careers a boost with upcoming classes starting this month.

On Saturday, Jan. 5, award-winning composer lyricist Ryan Scott Oliver (35mm) and New York photographer Matthew Murphy will offer a masterclass in Los Angeles for actors. Students can sing for Oliver for critique (audit also available), and then have the opportunity to get headshots with Murphy.

Oliver is a 2009 Jonathan Larson Grant Recipient, 2008 Rodgers Award Winner, 2011 Lortel Award Nominee, a 2007 Dramatists Guild Fellow, and most recently, the recipient of residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Weston Playhouse, and Cap 21 for We Foxes, a commission by Broadway Across America. www.ryanscottoliver.com, Murphy is a New York City-based photographer specializing in theater and dance whose work appears regularly in the Arts and Leisure section of The New York Times. www.MurphyMade.com 

The masterclass/headshot shoot will take place from 1 - 4pm at Madilyn Clark Studios located at 10852 Burbank Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601. Musical theatre composer Georgia Stitt is also offering a 6-week Winter Musical theater Class in Pasadena to start the new year. You may choose a music theater or pop song from any genre and either shape it into a useful audition selection or discover why it's problematic. Topics include: audition cuts, choosing material, personalizing songs, connecting, letting the music work for you, knowing your type, and making strong choices. Identify the structure of your song and use it to strengthen your storytelling. Class maximum is eight participants and each singer/actor will work for 20 minutes each week.
