Get Ready for ANNIE at the Hollywood Bowl

Get ready musical lovers – everyone’s favorite singing orphan is coming to town and she’s taking over the Hollywood Bowl! ANNIE, the Tony Award-winning musical by Charles Strouse (music), Martin Charnin (lyrics) and Thomas Meehan (book) will play three performances July 27, 28 & 29th and is directed by Tony Award-nominated Michael Arden, conducted by Todd Ellison and choreographed by Eamon Foley. Every night is a great night at the Bowl and this one is sure to please the whole family.
Kaylin Hedges stars as the comic strip character brought to life whose optimism turns the tables on Miss Hannigan (Ana Gasteyer) and her cronies “Rooster” Hannigan (Roger Bart) and Lily St. Regis (Megan Hilty), while serving up some of the best classic musical theatre songs ever written.
“You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “N.Y.C.” and “Tomorrow” are just a few of the gems you’ll hear from the cast of Broadway and television personalities, which also includes David Alan Grier (Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks), Lea Solanga (Grace Farrell), Steven Weber (Franklin D. Roosevelt), Ali Stroker (Star-to-Be) and Amir Talai (Bert Healy).

My My, How Can We Resist MAMMA MIA! at the Hollywood Bowl?
It isn’t summer in Los Angeles without a trip to the Hollywood Bowl, the outdoor jewel of LA, where you’ll find every kind of music imaginable throughout the season. For musical theatre lovers, the big announcement about what summer musical the Bowl will stage at the end of July is always a big deal, and this year’s fan favorite doesn’t disappoint. Mamma Mia!, the 2001 international phenomenon that captured the hearts of hopeless romantics around the world, will play the Bowl July 28, 29 & 30.
The heartwarming story about a young woman’s plot to uncover the identity of her father among three of her mother’s former loves, kicks into hilarious high gear when she invites them to her wedding and they all show up. Sophie (Dove Cameron) doesn’t know if it’s Sam (Jaime Camil), Bill (Steven Weber) or Harry (Hamish Linklater) who will turn out to be her dad, but solving the mystery is sure to be full of comic twists. As for her mother, Donna (country star Jennifer Nettles), she’s about to take a trip down memory lane she never imagined with the support of her pals Rosie (Lea DeLaria) and Tanya (Tisha Campbell-Martin). What could go wrong, right?

Tony Award-winning director Kathleen Marshall directs and choreographs the production. David Holcenberg, currently music director of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Groundhog Day, leads the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra through Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ score, which contains two dozen incredible ABBA hits like “Dancing Queen,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimmie!” “S.O.S” and “Voulez-Vous.” If that doesn’t get you up dancing in the aisles, nothing will.
No matter how many times I've seen the musical live on stage or the film starring Meryl Streep, it never gets old. At the Bowl it promises to be an extra special night under the stars. Here we go again!

Someone is killing off the Drama Club of Vera Miles High School, everyone is a suspect and you decide who the killer is. Combining a slasher movie plot with a rock ‘n roll score, pop-culture humor and an homage to classic horror film clichés, Scary Musical has all the elements of your favorite “Scary Movies” with an added twist – the teenagers sing and dance – before, during and sometimes after getting killed! The setting is the quiet coastal village of Hidden Secrets, USA. On the night before the opening of the Vera Miles High School Drama Dept’s production of Scary Musical The Musical a brutal double murder takes place. Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood will present Quick & Funny Musicals, three brand new short musicals, on August 2nd at 10:00 pm in an evening of. They are: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Nightmare. The new national tour of Menopause The Musical® opens on Wednesday, September 17 at the Laguna Playhouse. (There will be one preview on Tuesday, September 16 and the show runs through September 28.) Now celebrating 13 years of female empowerment through hilarious musical comedy, Menopause The Musical® has evolved as a “grassroots” movement of women who deal with life adjustments after 40 by embracing each other and the road ahead. EXTENDED: The Old Globe has additional performances of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods, which made its world premiere at The Old Globe in 1986. MUSICALS: The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 2014 Summer Series at the Hollywood Bowl, which will include the Tony-winning musical HAIR, August 1 – 3. The cast and director will be announced at a later date. Additional musical performances include a Grease Sing-A-Long hosted by Didi Conn on July 13, and Sing-A-Long Sound of Music hosted by Melissa Peterman on Saturday, Sept. 20. Also included is DreamWorks Animation in Concert - Celebrating 20 Years, featuring the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins on July 18-19, hosted by Jack Black will host.
La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts has announced its March Madness schedule, which will include In The Mood: A 1040s Musical Revue (March 22 – 2pm & 8pm) and Floyd Collins (March 27 - April 13). More than a concert, In The Mood is a big band theatrical swing revue celebrating the music that moved the nation’s spirit! It’s the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and all the greats of the 1940’s featuring the In The Mood Singers and Dancers with the sensational String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra.
The world premiere of the new musical The Wrong Man has been extended and will now run January 25 – March 16 at Skylight Theatre. The production is written and performed by Ross Golan, directed and choreographed by Lee Martino. The Wrong Man is a powerful acoustical tale of what happens when the wrong man meets the wrong girl in the wrong place at the wrong time. What's Happening Around Town for June 22, 2013
Producers Topher Rhys and Jamie Lee Barnard have announced casting for the upcoming L.A. revival of bare, directed by Calvin Remsberg and presented by glory|struck productions this fall at the Hayworth Theatre. Performances begin September 5 with opening scheduled for Friday, September 6th. This will not be the revised incarnation of the musical that was recently seen Off-Broadway; the Los Angeles revival will preserve the authors’ original vision featuring the music of Damon Intrabartolo with book and lyrics by Jon Hartmere. Musical direction and music production is by by Elmo Zapp and Jen Oundjian will choreograph the show.
A story of discovery, acceptance and love, bare centers on the clandestine relationship between two roommates in a well-locked dorm room: charismatic, golden-boy Jason and sensitive, soulful Peter. As the pair navigates adolescence, we see the consequences of secrecy unravel though their eyes and those around them.
This electrifying rock musical will star Payson Lewis (NBC’s The Sing Off), Jonah Platt (The Office), Lindsay Pearce (Glee, The Glee Project), Katie Stevens (American Idol), Nathan Parrett, (The Voice), Caitlin Ary, Kelsey Hainlen, Casey Hayden, Christopher Higgins, Reesa Ishiyama, Harrison Meloeny and Katherine Washington. Original bare cast members Stephanie Andersen and John Griffin will return to the show alongside Alissa-Nicole Koblentz as the adult figures. Stephanie Andersen will be reprising her role of Sister Chantelle after originating the iconic character in the 2000 Los Angeles premiere and 2007 studio album. John Griffin, who received a 2001 Ovation Award nomination for portraying Jason, will be seeing St Cecilia’s from the other side of the confessional, this time as The Priest. Casting has been announced for Musical Theatre West’s production of Sunset Boulevard, to run July 12 - 28 at Long Beach’s Carpenter PAC, exactly 20 years to the day (July 28) after the show’s world premiere. The 17th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) Finals Competition will be held Friday, July 19, 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the California Ballroom - Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 S. Brecht On Brecht, based on the writings of Bertolt Brecht, conceived by George Tabori from various translations and arranged & directed by Alistair Hunter returns to Atwater Playhouse for three performances June 28 - 30.
