World Premiere musical The Honeymooners
The Old Globe will open its 2013-14 Season with the world premiere of The Honeymooners, a new musical based on the legendary CBS television series. 2012 Tony Award winner Michael McGrath will star as Ralph Kramden, the small-time bus driver with big-time dreams. Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell will direct and choreograph the musical comedy, with book by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss, music by Stephen Weiner and lyrics by Peter Mills. The complete creative team and casting will be announced at a later date. The Honeymooners, presented under a license from CBS, will run Sept. 8 – Oct. 27, 2013 with opening night set for Sunday, Sept. 22. Ralph Kramden and his buddy Ed Norton are back with a whole new scheme in this world premiere musical. The two friends enter a jingle contest, and much to the shock of their long-suffering wives, they actually win! Soon they are catapulted out of Brooklyn and into the cutthroat world of Madison Avenue, where they find themselves torn between success and friendship. A Broadway Christmas Adds Performers
Chris Issaacson announces additional performers for Upright Cabaret’s A Broadway Christmas. Joining the previously announced Lillias White, James Tormé and host David Hernandez from American Idol are LaToya London, Brittany Underwood, Matt Zarley, Nita Whitaker and Carla Renata, Sylvia Maccalla, Kelli Provart and Santa Claus (Coming Direct from the North Pole)! Also appearing will be Brandon Alameda, Matthew Ballestero, Caitlin O’Brient, Will Collyer, Shannon Cudd, Sheila Karls, Roy Leake Jr., Ted Napolitano, Karissa Noel, Kelly Rice, Noah Rivera, Derek Scott Rochini, Danielle Sadd, Lynsey Shaw, Nathan Shrake, Ricke Vermont and more. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown Opens Theatre Banshee Season
J & J Productions at Theatre Banshee in Burbank has announced that it will open its 2013 season with You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The show will run January 18 – February 10 and is directed by Neil Dale, with choreography by Janet Renslow and musical direction by Marc Macalintal. Based on The Comic Strip "Peanuts" by Charles M. Schulz, it features book, music & lyrics by Clark Gesner, additional dialogue by Michael Mayer, and additional music & lyrics by Andrew Lippa. This revised edition is a fresh approach to the all-time 1967 classic. The cast will feature Carla Jimenez (Lucy), Eymard Cabling (Linus), Colette Peters (Sally), Frankie Marrone (Snoopy), James Oronoz (Schroeder), Chris Duir (Charlie Brown), and Chaz Feuerstine (also as Charlie Brown). La Jolla DNA New Works Features Chasing the Song
La Jolla Playhouse announces a new play development initiative, the DNA New Work Series, entailing a six-week period of workshop productions and public readings of new plays and musicals, taking place January 24 through March 3, 2013.The focus of the series is to allow playwrights and directors the opportunity to develop a script by providing rehearsal time, space and resources, culminating in a workshop production or public reading. A centerpiece of the series will be a staged reading of the new musical Chasing the Song, by the Tony Award-winning creators of Memphis: Joe DiPietro (book & lyrics) and David Bryan (music & lyrics), and directed by Christopher Ashley. The musical will have two public staged readings on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26, both at 8:00pm. In New York’s legendary Brill Building, Elegant Edie’s music publishing house is struggling along when talented novice songwriter Ginny bursts on the scene. She quickly learns the ropes from her seasoned colleagues, penning several hits and discovering herself in the process. Chasing the Song follows this group of pop songwriters and the changing sounds of the music charts in the early 1960s, prior to The Beatles emerging and changing the entire music world.
