San Diego Musical Theatre Announces New Season and Auditions

San Diego Musical Theatre has announced its 2010-2011 season of Broadway musicals, beginning with Smokey Joe’s Café by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller September 24 – October 10, 2010. Ron Kellum will direct and choreograph, and musical director is Don LeMaster.

Following Smokey Joe’s Café is The Story of My Life, a San Diego premiere that will run January 21 – February 6, 2011. A richly melodic musical, it is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever. Nick DeGruccio will direct.

The final show of the season will be A Chorus Line, playing May 27 – June 12, 2011. A brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama, the show was instantly recognized as a classic. Kay Cole, who originated the role of Maggie in A Chorus Line on Broadway will direct and choreograph.

All shows will be produced at the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza in San Diego. For more information go to www.sdmt.org/.

Audition Notice: San Diego Musical Theatre has also announced auditions will be held for Smokey Joe’s Café on August 4 & 5 with callbacks on August 7. Audition times are by appointment only 858-560-5740. AEA Guest Artist Contracts are available and there is pay for non-equity actors.

The audition location is San Diego Musical Theatre, 4652 Mercury Street, San Diego, CA 92111. Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of a rock, soul or gospel song in the style of the show. Also prepare 32 or more bars of a selection from the role you are auditioning for. Come dressed in the style of the character you are auditioning for - comfortable for movement -no jeans, sweatpants or dance clothes. Please bring one headshot, resume and sheet music in the correct key.
