What's Happening Around Town for September 30



Hairspray – 3-D Theatricals
3-D Theatricals will present Hairspray as the final show of its 2012 season, with choreography by Dana Solimando, musical direction by Allen Everman, and directed by T.J. Dawson. Hairspray runs October 12 - 28, with a press opening on Saturday, October 13 at the historic Plummer Auditorium, 201 E. Chapman Ave. in Fullerton. The show will then travel across town to perform at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd. for 3 performances only Nov. 2 - 4.

The cast features Danielle Arci as Tracy Turnblad, Paul Vogt as Edna Turnblad, Barry Pearl as Wilbur Turnblad, Gwen Stewart as Motormouth Maybelle, Jeff Stanfield as Link Larkin, Jill Van Velzer as Velma Von Tussle, J. Patrick Lundquist as Corny Collins, Alyssa M. Simmons as Penny Pingleton, Laura L. Thomas as Amber Von Tussle, Bonnie Kovar as Female Authority Figure, Danny Stiles as Male Authority Figure, Marliss Amiea, Carey Rebecca Brown and Salisha Thomas as Dynamites, Shaylin Becton as Little Inez, Todrick Hall as Seaweed J. Stubbs, along with Chelsea Emma Franko, Chester Lockhart, Chris Duir, Daniel Switzer, Desmond Newsom, Domonique Paton, Hannah Simmons, Jacob Haren, James-Darrell, Kenji Crockett, Mattthew L. The Coco & Ruby Variety Hour
Muse Rouge Productions and Sterling’s Upstairs at the Federal present Courtney Freed and Rebecca Johnson in The Coco & Ruby Variety Hour, Monday October 15th at 8pm. The show is a dazzling trip down memory lane and a peek into the hilarious and wacky lives of Coco and Ruby, who mysteriously fell out of their humdrum lives in 1940’s Newark, New Jersey and into modern day Hollywood to live the dream! The Coco & Ruby Variety Hour will include many of your favorite WWII era standards, as well as vintage takes on contemporary pop songs. Plus, it will feature the piano styling of Matt Schwartz and special guest appearances from actor/comedian Tony Rodriguez, the comedy vaudeville duo Hensley & Montiel, and famed nightclub crooner Johnny Holiday. 44 Plays for Presidents
Drive Theatre Company proudly presents 44 Plays for 44 Presidents: LA directed and choreographed by Doug Oliphant Oct 11 - Nov 6, Thurs - Sat at 8pm with a special performance on election night - Tuesday, November 6. 44 Plays is a wildly entertaining and informative play that gives a 2-minute glance into each president's time in office, and leaves the audience to decide the future of the United States. Partnered with Rock the Vote, the lobby will feature live voter registration, candidate matchmaking and more. American History Through a Cracked Lens
Bill Mesnik will perform Mudslinger!, an evening of songs and stories associated with Presidential campaigns going back as far as 1800 (“Jefferson and Liberty”) and addressing issues like emancipation, women’s suffrage, schemes to limit minority voting, war and international adventurism, speculations about the future, and much more. Mesnik accompanies his musical presentation of vocals, guitar and banjo with fascinating stories of how we have conducted the electoral process in these United States over two centuries.
