There's Always a "Way Out of Nowhere"
City at Peace, a national organization that uses the performing arts for youth empowerment and community change is presenting Way Out of Nowhere, a musical unlike any other July 9 – 11th at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood.
The show, written and performed entirely by CP-LA@Inside Out Community Arts’ teenage members, tells the true stories of teenage struggles with friendship, domestic violence, heterosexism, poverty, rape, and gang violence, and is based on the modern-day lives and experiences of the cast.
By being a part of the program, many of the teens have increased their grades and their interest in school, changed how they think about people from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, changed how they deal with conflict, and increased their desire to make a difference in their communities. Many members have described the program as life-saving; nearly all have called it life-altering.
The City at Peace-Los Angeles program is in its eighth year and in its first as an Inside Out Community Arts licensed program. Inside Out is a non-profit organization in Los Angeles that uses visual and performing arts workshops, performances and festivals, to give youth from all backgrounds the tools, confidence and inspiration to make a positive difference in their communities and the world ... from the inside out.
Performances for Way Out of Nowhere will take place at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027. Tickets are available at www.bgttix.com or by calling 310-397-8820 x 105.
