Chance Theater’s next presentation in its “On the Radar” Series will be a staged reading of Loch Ness, a new musical from resident artist, Marshall Pailet (Triassic Parq – The Musical) on Tues., May 13 at 8:00 pm at the Bette Aitken Theater Arts Center. What do you get when a 12 year old girl meets the world’s most famous 1,000 year old mystical sea serpent? Soul mates, of course! Meet Haley Westerbrook, a young girl who has just met “Nessie”… and nothing’s ever going to be the same. See the family musical about the power of imagination. OPENINGS: Congrats to Chromolume Theatre who celebrated their 12th Anniversary on Saturday with a reception following their performance of The Musical of Musicals, The Musical! stylishly directed by Kristin Towers-Rowles. Prior to the show, artistic director James Esposito introduced the cast of Altar Boyz, Chromolume’s next production and the boys did a musical tease from the show. CONCERTS/CABARET: Mack & Poppy return to Los Angeles with their new show The Patriot Act on April 25 & 26 at 9:00 pm at Cavern Club Celebrity Theatre. Music News: L.A. Update, a Little Bit of Everything
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: The Book of Mormon has added five additional weeks of performances to the originally announced return engagement at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. AUDITIONS: Cabrillo Music Theatre in Thousand Oaks is holding auditions for Kiss Me, Kate on August 5 – 6. CABARET/CONCERT UPDATE: On Fri, July 19, 2013 at 7:00 pm, GLEH and Chris Isaacson present Upright Cabaret at GLEH; a monthly charitable cabaret series raising awareness of GLEH through song. The show will star Broadway’s Matt Zarley.
The Old Globe will present a one-night-only Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert on Monday, August 19 at 7:00 pm that will feature several prominent San Diego artists covering the songs of the legendary musician. The concert coincides with the Globe’s upcoming production of The Last Goodbye, a fusion of Buckley’s music with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
The 3rd Annual LA Skins Music Fest will takes place on July 20th, 2013 at the Autry National Center. This concert series focuses on contemporary Native American music, featuring R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop and Rock. The event is FREE and parking is provided.
On Friday July 26 at 8:00 pm, Under The Oaks at Theatricum Botanicum will offer Songs of Hank Williams performed by special guests in a tribute evening filled with heartaches, humor and honesty. Before his untimely death at 29, Williams wrote some of the best, and best known, songs of the 20th Century such as “Cold, Cold Heart”, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)”, and “Hey Good Lookin.’” The concert will take place in the S. Mark Taper Youth Pavilion.
Bella Donna, a tribute to Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, comes to The Grove Theatre in Upland for one night only on August 10th at 8:00 pm. The critically acclaimed concert re-creates the persona and music of the reigning Queen of Rock, Stevie Nicks in concert.
And by popular demand, The Perfect Gentlemen return to The Grove Theatre, also for one night only, on August 31st at 8:00 pm. Their blend of harmony and humor harkens back to the days of Vaudeville by recreating the close harmonies of such legendary groups as The Ink Spots and the Pied Pipers, while including the era’s great comic songs made famous by the likes of Louis Jordan and The Hoosier Hotshots.

Little House on the Prairie-oke!, a musical mashup of the beloved television series with karaoke hits of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and beyond opens April 5th at Cavern Club Celebrity Theater. Conceived, written, and directed by Dane Whitlock with choreography by Joseph Corella, Little House on the Prairie-oke! combines iconic episodes of the beloved television series with cross generational karaoke standards that will surely appeal to all – Party in the U.S.A., Call Me Maybe, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Love Shack, Sweet Caroline, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Hit Me With Your Best Shot - and more. Want to watch the Finals of the Festival of New American Musicals’ Show Search coming up March 23rd? Tickets are free and you can also join in the fun at the reception following the competition. (Tickets are $10 paid at door). Show Search is a national search for the best 10-minute musical, written by 13 - 25 year olds, hosted by FNAM Spokesman, Darren Criss. They will perform one night only at the beautiful Cortines Arts High School in Downtown Los Angeles. The musicals will be judged on storytelling, musicality, performance, and originality. Director Richard Israel has staged each of the musicals with an equity ensemble, and the Judges will award one “Best Musical” Scholarship to the 16-18 year olds and one to the 19 - 25 year olds. Johnny is a musical set in the near future where all communication is through computers and technology. When the Internet is stolen, a group of kids must connect in a way they never have before to get it back - through paper!

The sweet and nurturing preschool teacher Ms. White is challenged when the compassionless Teacher Turner is brought in to teach alongside her.
INEXPERIENCED LOVE: (Jacob Tischler, Benjamin Viertel)
Take this fast-paced plunge into the mystery of new love with Jameson and Ruthie. He has always considered himself unworthy romantic material, but she has obsessed over Jameson for fourteen wishful years. Now they must battle their deep-seeded insecurities as fate flings them together.

What's Happening Around Town for Saturday, November 3, 2012
Plaid Tidings, written and directed by Stuart Ross, is coming to the Laguna Playhouse beginning November 27, with an official opening night on December 1, and will run through Dec. 30. The cast will feature William Martinez as Frankie, Scott Dreier as Smudge, David Brannen as Sparky and Ciaran McCarthy as Jinx.
On February 9, 1964, the semi-professional harmony group ‘Forever Plaid’ was tragically killed en route to their first big gig, but Frankie, Sparky, Smudge and Jinx are back on The Laguna Playhouse stage in the heart-warming holiday musical, Plaid Tidings. The only problem for this quartet of confused doo-wop wanna-be’s is that they have no idea why they’ve been sent to Laguna Beach or why they all have the overwhelming urge to sing Christmas classics such as “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas,” “ Let It Snow,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” It’s a terrific holiday entertainment for everyone. The Old Globe has announced the cast for its 15th annual production of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The holiday musical will run Nov. 17 – Dec. 29. Previews run from Nov. 17 – Nov. 23. Opening night is Nov. 23 at 7pm. As previously announced, Steve Blanchard reprises his role as The Grinch. Alternating as Cindy-Lou Who are Caitlin McAuliffe and Lilith Freund. What’s Happening Around Town for October 28, 2012
It began 60 years ago with eight guys sitting around a poker table in a smoke-filled room on a Monday night, trying to figure out what to do with $600. Typically, they’d throw themselves a year-end bash with the money they put aside from each pot at their weekly poker game. But the talk had gotten around to doing something different that year – something for someone else. And that’s exactly what they did. 60 years later Help Youth Charities Fund has raised over $ 4.5 Million dollars towards its charter cause. "Helping handicapped and underprivileged children of every race, color & creed." This year they guys are putting up Mel Brooks’ The Producers November 1 -11 at the ACME Comedy Theatre on La Brea. The entire production is volunteer driven & ALL funds raised through the production will go towards our mission of helping the kids! Some past projects & programs funded include:
-Therapeutic Swimming pool for Physically Challenged Youth
-Training kitchen for multi-disability blind children.
-Woodworking shop to rehabilitate street kids.
-A voice synthesizer for a teenager without any vocal chords.
-Construction of special needs playground for disabled kids.

The musical mash-up parody that rocked the Cavern Club Theatre at Casita del Campo this August returns for another limited engagement at the Hudson Theatre in Hollywood. Loosely based on Judy Blume’s popular coming of age novel published in 1970, this musical parody lovingly recalls the sights, sentiments and sounds of the era. This version will also feature music from the cherished holiday album, Carpenters Christmas Portrait. Conceived, written and directed by Dane Whitlock with choreography by Kim Hale, Are You There God? It’s Me, Karen Carpenter features Carey Peters, Jennifer Blake and Drew Droege. The Grove Theatre presents A Really, Really Good Time, Holly Jolly Christmas Carol, by Mary Willard, starring Fred Willard as E.B. Scrooge. The time is December 20, 2012 and the United States Superstar Show has really, really gone into overtime. It is to air Christmas Eve night but E.B. Scrooge is not happy with any of the people auditioning. E.B. is even more irritated, aggravated and riled up with everyone and everything...the talent, the set, the workers and most of all Bobby Cratchit, his right hand man. After an exhausting day he returns to his apartment where he is visited by the Ghost of Johnny Carson. Johnny tells him he will be visited by three spirits who will help him become the man that Johnny knows he can become. Performances begin Friday, November 30, and end Sunday, December 16.
