No Way to Treat a Lady
No Way to Treat a Lady was the first of William Goldman’s novels to be sold to the movies and was produced by Paramount Pictures in 1968 starring George Segal as Detective Morris Brummell, Lee Remick as his girlfriend Sarah Stone, Rod Steiger as the killer Christopher “Kit” Gill, and Eileen Heckart as Morris’s mother, Flora. Goldman later went on to write award winning screenplays for The Princess Bride, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men. After seeing the movie, Douglas J. Cohen was inspired to read the novel, and the idea for a musical version of Goldman’s story was born.
The Colony Theatre’s Los Angeles premiere of this musical suspense thriller features four outstanding actors taking their turn playing the 17 roles, led by Jack Noseworthy, the devilishly handsome killer-of-many-disguises. With the exception of Kevin Symons as Morris and Erica Piccininni as Sarah Stone, the remaining characters are hilariously brought to life by Heather Lee. Whether it’s as Morris’s long suffering mother or any of Kit’s colorful but unfortunate victims, Lee steals the show practically every time she steps on stage. Symons and Picininni effectively round out the cast as the detective on Gill’s tail and his society gal love interest.
Does Morris find the killer, will Kit finally make his dead mother proud, and does anyone even get the girl? You’ll have to see No Way to Treat a Lady for yourself to find out. Show runs through May 17. For tickets call the Colony Theatre at 818-558-7000.
